Here is a quick, easy way to use the equipment you already have plus an adapter to make and receive Skype calls from your home phone. First purchase a VOIP phone adapter that works with Skype (you can get these from Best Buy or online.
1. Insert the setup CD into your computer tray (if applicable) and follow the on screen steps. IMPORTANT: Do not connect a USB or ethernet into cord your computer from the adapter until you are told to do so. (The ethernet cable looks like a large version of a phone jack connection line.)
2. Follow the add new hardware wizard (depending on model). You may have to do this twice, once for the Skype USB VOIP adapter and once for phone audio.
3. Install Skype or open it if you have not already.
4. Connect the phone line to your VOIP adapter. Plug the phone cord in to the slot that says "phone" until you hear a click. Connect the other end to the phone itself. Power on any extension phones as they will work with Skype also.
5. Test the VOIP USB adapter and Skype setup by calling from a cell phone.
6. Connect to Skype and authorize the USB adapter to use Skype when prompted.
7. Restart your computer if needed or if the VOIP adapter and Skype are not working. Make sure they both appear in your system tray in the lower right corner of your computer screen. If the adapter is malfunctioning, the icon may prompt you, flash or turn a different color.
Now you can be up and away with your equipment and using a usb voip phone for skype calls.
